Why Jesus had to be Crucified

(God’s Superior Strategy)

By

There are many people (saints and non-believers) who believe that the outcome of the battle between God and evil is not yet determined. Although we know in our heads that the bible says that the victory is already won, still in our hearts and in our lives, we have a dreadful fear of falling to the Devil. Somehow, we have created an image of Satan that makes him a master strategist, so clever that no one can defeat him. This is far from being true. This article is going to show just how effective the strategy of Satan is against God.

The bible tells us that had the princes (angels) of this world known, they would not have crucified The Lord of Glory (1 Cor. 2:8). When we read this verse we often interpret it as meaning that they would not have “killed” Jesus, but there is much more than that to the meaning. The word “crucified” is extremely important to the understanding because it defines the means by which Jesus was put to death.  Had the death of Christ not come by crucifixion, He could not have accomplished what He came to do. It was necessary that God manipulate Satan into crucifying Christ as opposed to killing Him by some other means. It was necessary that God manipulate Satan into using the priests and the law to destroy Jesus. It was necessary that Jesus be charged, tried, convicted, and executed by the law and by false testimony. In order to make all of these things happen in the order and manner required, God employed a strategy that was vastly superior to that of Satan. God’s strategy was so brilliant that “Had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory”.

The explanation of the strategy is simple. We know that Adam fell to sin in the garden and that sin separated him (death) from God (Gen. 3). We know that all men born of Adam are born sinners (Rom 5); therefore we are all sinners at birth. We know that the sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law (1 Cor 15:56). Since every man is a sinner, this gave Satan the authority to hold them in the underworld, separated from God.

This is why Christ had to be crucified. In order to break the authority that Satan had over the souls of man, God had to destroy the strength of sin (law).  By destroying the strength of sin, the sting (cause) of death (separation) would also be destroyed. The only way for this to be accomplished was for the law itself to commit sin and the only way that could happen would be for the law to put an innocent man to death, thereby committing murder. But, there were no innocent men, because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, therefore Satan felt confident that his hold on man was eternal. The threat to this hold on man first appeared in the manifestation of God the Word as Jesus. The birth of Jesus was through Mary but not “of” Mary. In other words, Jesus is not of Adam therefore, He did not inherit the sin of Adam. The birth of Christ meant that there was now a sinless man on earth that Satan had no authority over. The existence of a sinless man does not mean that salvation has come. Salvation must come through the destruction of the hold that sin has on man. Christ’s birth made this a possibility, but not a reality. In order for the reality of salvation to take place, God would have to execute an incredible strategy that caused Satan to accuse, try, convict, and then execute, this one innocent man. Not only so, but Satan would have to employ the law to do it, because if Jesus died by any other means, His death would not be at the hands of the law and the law would not be guilty of sin. Therefore, Jesus had to be crucified, which was the method of death used to denote that a person is a sinner or guilty of crime. God so manipulated Satan, that Satan did everything necessary for men to be saved, all the while thinking that he was winning. Satan rushed to crucify Christ; he placed every sin possible, past, present and future on Christ. Every possible sin became a conspirator in the shedding of innocent blood. When the law itself became guilty of murder, it nullified its strength, thereby breaking the hold that Satan had over all men.

Had Satan known the superior strategy of God, he would not have crucified Christ. Any other death would not have delivered man, only crucifixion as a sinner. God’s strategy prevailed over Satan so that Satan did what was necessary to deliver man from sin. We should not fear Satan’s guile so long as we walk in the way and the mind of Christ.

God’s is the Superior Strategy.

May God Bless You.
